Yad Dovid & Jewnity Sports recently held its ‘Hoop for Hope’ 3v3 Charity Tournament.
The tournament was hosted in the La Liga Sports Complex and had over 100 players, friends, and family uniting for hope. The event was held to raise funds for Yad Dovid - an organization working to bring awareness and support to those struggling with mental health. A portion of the funds also went to support the Jewnity Sports 'Our Kids Project', providing a life-changing basketball-themed trip for Israeli kids who have lost immediate family members in the war.
Opening remarks were given by Yair Shpiler, CEO of Jewnity Sports who stressed the importance of playing for a greater purpose. Each of the 6 courts was named after some of our brothers and sisters still held captive in Gaza.
The tournament hosted 16 teams. Starting with a round-robin, and followed by an exciting playoff round, which split the teams into higher and lower tiers. In between the round-robin and the playoffs, the players took a lunch break where Aaron Zahler, founder of Yad Dovid delivered personal remarks about the importance of his new organization.
The delicious lunch was followed by a 3-point contest. To enter the contest players put in $100 each, and the winner, Jake Ohana, won half the prize whilst the rest went to charity. Jake also won a 12-month free gym membership to Body + Soul Fitness.
Off of the court, there was also a VIP lounge for players, friends, and family filled with luxury refreshments and lunch served by Prime T.O.
In the meantime, Jewnity Sports’ Instagram account was taken over by Gishmak Herring, an up-and-coming social media Jewish superstar who conducted some funny interviews with the participants.
